The Bench

The Bench

A Bench has no say

About who ends up on it

Unwilling party guest,

Uncomfortable bed,

Or public stage,

Every day the same

As the day before the day before

Its limitless endurance

Imparts a sense of dignity

To those that seek its refuge

Wedged together

Heads swaying

To the rhythm of the city

Passing by

Behind its naked face

The backwards winding watch clicks-on

Negating discrepancies of

A human mind in flux

Illuminating the fundamental

Constraint of ambivalence

That consumes all perspective

Pain fades and memories

Disintegrate like dying

Flowers in the wind

Crumbling under the tranquil

Rapture of conversation

Death of a waltz

Death of a Waltz

Stuffed into a tuxedo

A wilted rose in the lapel

Stripped bare of dancing shoes

Forced to sit quietly

Wrought in silent observation

While keeping perfect three four time

Resisting the restraint

Fighting for motion

Untamed feet frozen in silence

Like a death without a funeral .

taking flight

Toes on the edge

Arms raise up to stroke the sky

Leaning into the wind

In the stillness of the moment

I fly
